SPM Science 2024 (Real Paper), Paper 2 (Question 10)

Question 10:
Diagram 9.1 shows three cameras, P, Q and R.

(a)(i) State the type of lens used in Diagram 9.1. [1 mark]

(ii) Magnifying glass also uses the same lens in Diagram 9.1. State one characteristic of image produced by magnifying glass. [1 mark]

(b) Based on Diagram 9.1, choose the camera that is the most suitable to shoot a scenery picture.
Explain. [2 marks]

(c) You want to see the surface of the Moon more clearly by using a simple telescope.
By using the materials in Diagram 9.2, sketch without labelling and explain the simple telescope model.

Sketch your simple telescope without labelling in the space provided.

[1 mark]

Explain your model

Jawapan:
(a)(i) Convex len

Explanation:
The lenses in the diagram converge light rays to a point, which is a main characteristic of a convex lens as it focuses light to form a clear image.

(a)(ii) Virtual // Upright // Magnified

Explanation:
A magnifying glass uses a convex lens which produces a virtual, upright, and magnified image when the object is placed closer than the focal length of the lens.

(b)
– The most suitable camera is camera P.

– Camera P has the widest field of vision because it has the shortest focal length (f).

– This allows the camera to capture a wider view, which is suitable for landscape photography.

(c)

– Deduct one mark if labelled

Explanation:
– The thick lens is the objective lens. It is placed at the front end of the telescope to collect light from distant objects like the surface of the Moon.

– The thin lens is the eyepiece lens. It is placed at the rear end of the telescope to magnify the image formed by the objective lens.

Explanation:
The thick lens is used as the objective lens because it can gather more light from distant objects like the Moon. The thin lens is used as the eyepiece because it magnifies the image formed by the objective lens.
